About Copenhagen

Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark; it is a huge city with several district articles containing sightseeing, restaurant and nightlife. Copenhagen was a fishing village until the middle of the 12th century. Fortified by Bishop Absalon in 1167 and because of its harbour, it became a place of commercial importance and was repeatedly attacked by the Hanseatic towns.

The city was chosen for the capital in 1443 by Christopher III. during the Napoleonic Wars In 1801, a British flotilla, commanded by Horatio Nelson, destroyed a Danish fleet in the harbour of Copenhagen harbour and in 1807 British naval vessels bombarded the city to prevent Denmark from giving up its fleet to Napoleon. Copenhagen, as in the rest of Denmark, has four distinct seasons. The best time to visit is definitely the warm period from early May to late August.

An excellent start to any visit to Copenhagen is to climb the unique 7.5-turn helical corridor leading to the observation platform of Rundetarn - the Round tower, one of Copenhagen's most iconic buildings. It offers excellent views and is right in the centre of the city.
