About Venice

Venice, located in northern Italy is built on a hundred islands with innumerable bridges, of which only three cross the main canal. This breathtakingly beautiful city boasts historic buildings, art galleries and museums, winding streets, canals, piazzas, churches and monasteries.

Organised sightseeing tours are a must, if for no other reason than the terrain. A visit to the famous St. Marks Square is a must and is easily reached on foot.  Napoleon summed it up most eloquently when he described it as ‘the drawing room of Europe’.  Every turn will lead you to a medieval bridge as there are over four hundred bridges in this small city. The excellent architectural marvel of the Basilica of San Morocco, is also a must visit as is the Capo Santa Maria Formosa, Marco Polo’s house.   Explore the beauty of the Doge’s Palace nearby, the history of the palace dates back to when Venetian rulers were residing there.  No visit to Venice would be complete without a canal cruise.
