The city of Split is located on the Eastern Coast of the Adriatic Sea and is said to be over 1700 years old; the old town is built around the harbour on the south side of a high peninsula.
Split experiences a Mediterranean climate with an average high temperature in June of 30 degrees Celsius.
The Archaeological Museum in Split is the oldest museum institution in Croatia; founded in 1820.
The Croatian Maritime Museum boasts a fine collection of marine equipment and supplies as well as ship models, uniforms, weapons and navigation equipment.
On the outskirts of Split is Solin, where excavations of the Capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia and the Emperor Diocletian can be found.
