About Marseille

Marseille is the second largest city in France as well being the chief port.  It has 57 Kilometres of coastline, and sea trade has played an important part for centuries. Marseille is a city full of art and culture and has a wealth of monuments, places of interest and museums to visit.

Marseille is a city that is proud to be different from the rest of France. It boasts a magnificent Opera House, historical and maritime museums, five art galleries and numerous monuments. The small port of L'Estaque on the far end of the Bay of Marseille became a favourite haunt for artists, including Auguste Renoir and Paul Cézanne.  Being a vibrant city Marseille offers a huge array of cafes, bistros, bars and restaurants in which to sample the excellent French cuisine and superb regional wines.  The main harbour and the marina areas are guarded over by two huge forts.  This is a very beautiful part of the city and one in which both tourists and locals alike choose to dine al fresco.
